And…done (almost)

Friday was my last day at work for at least a year. 

I admit that I was so busy trying to catch up my substitute, clean off at least the top of my desk, and tie up all loose ends that it didn’t seem so strange.  Also, everyone else was leaving for spring break, so there was that “see you in a while” atmosphere at the end of the day.  However, one upside to grading all weekend (and probably the rest of the week):  the not-painful-but-really-ugly ankle swelling has diminished considerably from sitting on my couch for two days.

While it wasn’t strange or sad, my colleagues and students did make the day special.  My former team teacher had all my current and many of my former students write little notes on pretty paper (how did I get so lucky to partner with two amazing Elis/zabeths, one at Skyline and one at Leigh?).  My current team teacher, Tom, brought me flowers.  My journalism students made a gigantic card that they all signed.  My department brought in all manner of treats, and Christy made these beautiful scrapbooks just waiting for pictures to be put in them–and she made one for each baby, which was so generous.  More students helped carry bags and boxes to my car in the pouring rain.  I have said it before, but I am so blessed to have such a supportive network of friends.

On Wednesday we had our 25-week ultrasound, and everyone is still healthy and progressing.  Baby B weighed in at 2 lbs; Baby C at 1 lb. 12 oz, and Baby A at 1 lb. 11 oz.  Definitely good news!  I also passed the glucose screening test, for which the Hawaiian Punch-flavored stuff was not quite as bad as I had heard–so no gestational diabetes!  Here are the latest photos of the babies:

The doctor we saw (there are 11 in the clinic) predicted that I will deliver around their triplet average:  33.5 weeks.  I told him I was an overachiever and had a goal of 35 weeks.  He seemed skeptical, as he noted that I am not a large person, then told me drily that since I was an overachiever, their maximum for triplets was 36.5 weeks delivering 3 8 lb. babies.  I asked what that lady was like before she had the triplets, and he said she was 6’1″ and it was not her first pregnancy.  Maybe she had a slight advantage.  But at least mentally, if I can prep myself to last into the first full week in June, that might help manage the discomfort that is bound to come in the next couple of months.
