Happy Retirement, Guy!
Yesterday my father-in-law Guy finished a 47-year career working as a civilian engineer for the Navy. This is what I would have said at his retirement party had I retained my ability to speak spontaneously (another casualty of sleeplessness):
Two qualities I admire most about Guy are his loyalty and integrity. He has put all of his intelligence and energy into his work for a time longer than most can envision staying with one job. His loyalty to the Frindell family is evident in his many “suicide missions” to visit and/or help his sister, brothers, nieces, or in-laws–family is his top priority.
Guy not only holds high ethical standards, but he also holds himself to them. As Harper Lee wrote of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, he is “the same in his house as he is on the public streets.” These are the ethics he gave to Karen and Alan, which help make them the excellent human beings they are.
Thanks for welcoming me into the family as another Frindell! We hope you finally get the rest and relaxation you deserve.
