Our first road trip: Seattle to Seaside, OR, to Corvallis, and back.
Four days. Nearly 11 hours of driving. 617 miles.
Very little screamage in the car (I attribute this to Alan’s brilliant idea to turn their carseats around so they were facing forward for the first time). A success!
I’ll let the kids tell you about their vacation:
Audrey’s highlights: making new friends: Harper and Ames! Watching the seals at the Seaside Aquarium. A picnic lunch at a park in Tumwater. Swings on the beach.
Audrey’s lowlights: not much sleep (for Mommy or Daddy either). A meltdown and not eating dinner at Jeff and Katy’s. Scraping both knees badly on uneven gravel in downtown Seaside.
Theresa’s highlights: helping Grandpa build a sandcastle on the beach. Reading new books from Grandma and Grandpa. Eating Cheerios in the car. Looking at window displays in downtown Seaside.
Theresa’s lowlights: a diaper/clothing blowout. Falling off the stroller into the cabinet and getting an egg bruise on my forehead. Waking up with a fever and driving back to Seattle while feeling yucky.
Jamie’s highlights: a ceiling fan in every room! Elevators! Climbing the bench at the Seaside Aquarium. Playing Aunt Karen’s banjo.
Jamie’s lowlights: bedroom doors that close off a ceiling fan. Sand on my hands. Too-small shoes.
Our grown-up highlights: our first picnic lunch. Watching our kids run on the beach for the first time (their first time at the beach was last summer, before they could walk). Happy hour with Karen and Kevin at a local brewpub. Karen’s delicious cocktails. Reconnecting with Jeff and Katy and meeting their kids.
Best of all: knowing that we can do another road trip!
